'Here lies ye body of Mr Pierce Welch / Lieutenant of Her Majs Ship Salesbury / In ye year 1703 on ye 10th April thay / Engaged a part of ye Dunkirk Squadron / in wch he lost his lower jaw and part of his / Tongue by a musket ball after which he lived / six years 4 months and 12 days by liquids / only. He was First Lieutenant of the / Royal Hospital at Greenwich / and died ye 22 August 1709 / aged 59 years. / Tho' Boras Blasts & Neptuns waves / have tost me to and fro / In spite of both by God's decree I / harbour here below / wher I do now at anchor ride with / many of our fleet / yet once again I must set saile / Our Admiral Christ to meet. / Here lieth ye body of Eliz Welch widow of life December 27 1723 aged...'
