Description: Seamen's Mission Church built as a memorial to Rear-Admiral Francis Beaufort. The chapel is sited beside the River Thames and oriented North to South. It retains its original stained glass. The South window shows the miraculous draught of fishes. The bells were donated by Admiral Sir E. Inglefield. Notes: Canon C.R.E. Robinson was engaged in mission work with local boatmen and emigrants. He suggested in the church press that a bereaved family might like to sponsor a mission hall as a memorial. The daughter of Rear-Admiral Francis Beaufort offered to provide a church. The building was partly funded by public subscription, including a contribution from author, Charles Dickens.
