Notes: When erected the Obelisk was at the WMW end of an avenue of trees which framed the main front view westward from Curds Hall which was demolished at some time between 1935 and 1950. The parkland has now reverted to arable field. Memorial is 1.5 km from the nearest road but is accessible on public footpaths from Great Fransham and Little Dunham. The final 250m to the monument is on a signposted path from the north (not marked on map) along the western side of the field boundary. In Blomfield's 'History of Norfolk' the Curds Hall estate is recorded as being owned by William Nelson of Dunham Parva - this same William Nelson owned other property in both parishes and was the elder brother of Edmund Nelson, Horatio Nelson's grandfather (who was christened in Little Dunham church on 4 Nov 1693). William Nelson died in 1775 and John Drosier appears to have acquired Curds Hall from his estate. Mary Drosier (Drozier) was Nelson’s aunt.
