'Sacred to the Memory of GEORGE GRIFFIN Sergt R.M.L.I. who departed this life on Board H.M. Ship Charybdis, at Taboga on the 9th July 1863, Aged 35 Years. This Monument is erected by the Officers and Ship's Company of H.M. Ship Charybdis to show their appreciation of his worth and respect for his Memory.
