'To the Memory of Lawrence Cook Esq who died October 11th 1792. During a long life of usefulness and activity he manifested the excellencies of the Christian character as a husband, father, brother, friend and magistrate. Also to the memory of Margaret his wife eldest daughter of Thomas and Martha Shorting who was the only daughter of Thomas Hammond Esq and Martha eldest sister of Henry Lloyd Esq of Llanstephan Place, Carmarthen the last male representative of that ancient family. She died on the 8th March 1809 a pious, prudent and exemplary woman. They had five children. Hammond and Susannah died in infancy, Hugh a Captain in the Royal Navy died in London on 18th September 1834. His mortal remains are deposited in Catacomb Letter 1 belonging to the Church of St Martins in the Field, Middlesex. During the course of his Profession he was frequently engaged with the enemy and employed on various services of delicacy and hazard: Particularly when he commanded the Liberty Brig in 1800, 1801 on the Jersey station:-and in all these he acquitted himself with distinguished bravery, great discretion and the happiest success. He had a share in 4 General actions and thrice received the thanks of Parliament. He was promoted to the rank of Commander for his services in the great Battle of Trafalgar on the 21st October 1805. And to be a Captain for his conduct in the Battle off St Domingo on 6th February 1806. Thomas Shorting, Clerk, M.A. Martha:- by whom this monument is erected died 26th May 1854. Also to the memory of Susannah only sister of the above, Margaret who married Evan Rice, Rector of Howe in Kent, Llanidloes, Montgomeryshire, Reynalton, Pembrokeshire and died Headmaster of the King's School Rochester in 1800:- in her flowed emminently "the milk of human kindness". She died in 1797 and was buried in St. Stephen's Church Rochester. They had only one brother Thomas who being on a party of pleasure was accidentally drowned at the age of 15. He was buried in St. Mary's Church, Tenby'
