Description: A 5m bronze statue of Phillip stands on a marble pedestal and looks towards Sydney heads holding the British flag and a charter of government. The base has reclining bronze figures of Neptune, Cyclops, Commerce and Agriculture. The two mythical figures replaced a planned figure of a minor and a sailor, following a government suggestion that classical figures would be better received by the public. The whole is designed as a fountain. Between the reclining figures, water spouts in the form of ships' prows and paired dolphins pour into clam shell basins.
