AFTER THE WAR WAS / ADMIRAL OF WESTERN APPROACHES 1919-21 THEN RETIRED / HE BECAME J.P. FOR HANTS AND WAS OCCUPIED ON SEVERAL COMMITTEES / OF A CHARITABLE NATURE FOR BENEFIT OF / SEAFARERS OF ALL KINDS. / BORN OCTOBER 16TH 1859. DIED MARCH 5TH 1945'

Magistro & gloriae, Vice-Comiti London / 1640, electo; viro religione in Deum, probitate in omnes / aeternum imitando. Obiit Ano Christi 1641. Aetatis 74, et hic cum / majoribus 300, instar annorum, Jesum suum expectat. / To the memory of the Right Worthy and Worshipful / ROBERT SALMON Esquire / That great Instrument of God's glory, and the / commonwealth's good, the Restorer of Navigation / almost lost in 1614. Master of the Trinity House 1617 / and the glory of it 24 yeares, chosen sheriff / of London 1640. Whose solid Judgement, acute / wit, Uprightness to all, true Piety to God require / Admiration and Imitation, He dyed to the Losse / of all, but his own great Comfort June 18 1641 / in his 74th Year, and was Interred with / his Auncestors of about 300 years continuance / in the Grave of his Father in this Chancell / where he expecteth a joyful Resurrection / Do (Marble Stone) preserve his Name / And be the Treasurer of his Fame, / But if thou fail, his Name will be / A lasting monument to thee' [Gravestone] 'Here lies ROBRT SALMON Esqr / to whose deserved the Monument on the North / Wall is erected.
