'This brass is dedicated by his descendants to the memory of the Reverend Richard WALTER MA sometime fellow of Sidney Sussex College Cambridge, Chaplain of Portsmouth Dockyard 1745-1785, chaplain of H.M.S. CENTURION in commodore ANSON'S expedition and author of the well known "Voyage round the world". He died 10th March 1785 aged 67, and was buried in this church, the manor at this time belonging to his family. In the same grave rests Jane his wife who died December 1813 age 90'
