Notes: Douglass was Engineer-in-Chief for Trinity House. He designed and constructed lighthouses, including the fourth Eddystone Lighthouse. He was elected as a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1887. Douglass was knighted for his achievements. He retired in 1892 and died on the Isle of Wight in 1898.

There is a tablet in Bonchurch Old Church, Isle of Wight where Sir James was initially buried. He was re-intered in August 1913 at St Petrox, Dartmouth.

There is a further memorial table inside St Petrox.

Description: A white marble rectangular tablet with a classical moulded cornice topped by plain quadrant shaped terminals (one of which is missing) with a raked topped block between. There is a thin square shelf moulding at the base with an ogival apron. The whole is mounted on a black ground, pedimental at the top with a dropped portion for half the width at the base.
