'Near this place / are deposited the remains of WILLIAM PALMER Esquire / late of this parish: / where he was born on the 29th of Janr. 1734 / and died on the 6th of Septr. 1821 / in the 90th year of his age. / He was a Director of the Royal Hospital / at Greenwich and upwards of thirty years / one of his Majesty's Commissioners of the Navy. / His affectionate children / WILLIAM CATHERINE AND THOMAS PALMER / inscribe the marble to his memory / in grateful recollection of his paternal / kindness and with feelings of the deepest / love and veneration for the virtues which distinguished / his long and honorable life.'
