'SACRED / to the memory of Lieut. PHILIP BROMFIELD / late of His Majesty's ship St FIORENZO; Who after a liberal Education at Westminster School, entered at an early Age into the Naval Service / of his Country. / Under his brave and excellent Commander / Sir HARRY BURNARD NEALE Bart., / who was likewise his patron and Friend. / This Youth in a few Years had serv'd with Honour / in Ships of every description from a Sloop, to a first rate Man of War: / in every Station he gain'd the respect of his Superiors, / and the Esteem of his Equals / being modest, brave, and dilligent [sic], / and so devoted to his Profession / that had it pleas'd the Almighty / to have given him greater length of Days, / he would probably have been an Ornament / to the Character of a BRITISH NAVAL OFFICER / But - having exerted himself beyond his Strength / he died at Plymouth, on the 24th day of Novr. 1795 / having just enter'd his 19th Year / regretted by his brother officers and sorely lamented by his friends. / Yea speedily was he taken away / Lest that Wickedness might alter his Understanding, or Deceit beguile his Soul. / Wisdom Chap 4.
