'SACRED TO THE MEMORY OF GEORGE PEARD ESQRE COMMANDER IN THE ROYAL NAVY WHO DIED 16TH FEBRY 1837 AGED 44. HE WAS THE ELDEST SON OF SHULDHAM PEARD ESQRE (VICE ADMIRAL OF THE WHITE SQUADRON). POSSESSING A NOBLE AND GENEROUS HEART, FIRM RELIGIOUS PRINCIPLES AND A KINDNESS OF MANNER WHICH ENDEARED HIM TO ALL, HE DEPARTED THIS LIFE IN HUMBLE HOPE THROUGH THE MERITS OF OUR BLESSED REDEEMER OF RECEIVING AN INHERITANCE INCORRUPTIBLE IN HEAVEN. ONE IN WHOSE MEMORY HIS MATCHLESS VIRTUES WILL EVER LIVE, HAS PLACED THIS TABLET-AN INADEQUATE TESTIMENT OF HIS WORTH AND AFFECTION.
