'Sacred to the memory of ROBERT STERRY fish mercht / who unfortunately drowned with all his crew / May 29th 1807 aged 40 years / in his religious duties he was steady and attentive/in his worldly occupations regular and honest / and in his domestic kind and indulgent / Also to the memory of ROBT STERRY eldest son of the above, aged 10 years, who was unfortunately lost / by the boat upsetting the year before / Reader! Be mindful of the uncertainty of human / life from the untimely end of those unfortunate / persons and immediately examine into thine own state. The afflicted widow and mother of the above / erected this tablet as a tribute of her sincerest / affection'

Notes: Hit by UC 47 (Paul Hundius) but not sunk. The fishing smack came ashore 1 mile NE of Godrevy lighthouse, Cornwall, on 13 February 1917 in rough seas. All the crew of five were missing, presumed drowned. Recorder: Reverend William Henry Donnan 1967

Notes: Their boat was found wrecked at Sylcroft, Cumberland. Mr Daniel Goldsmith of the Ramsey Rocket Brigade was instrumental in having the last body returned to Bride and the memorial erected. '1846 Erected by ROBERT CARGILL fisherman in Auchmithie and his spouse JEAN SWANKIE in memory of their daughter CATHERINE who died June 25th 1828 aged 4 years. Their other children viz JEAN, JANET, MARGARET, AGNES and ELIZABETH survive this date. The above ROBERT CARGILL died 10th April 1865 aged 78 years. The above JEAN SWANKIE died 9 February 1878 aged 89 years.'
