Plurimis Principalibus praefuit Navibus, / Navarchus Dignissimus. / Terra / Unus e primarijs rei Navalis procurandae Praefectis / Per viginti et quinque annos extitit, / Rei navalis vere Providus; / Utpote Ubique et Mari et Terra, / Principi et Patriae vere Fidus; / In omni Vitae Studio, Vir Probus et Integer, / Obijt vicesimo-sexto die Maij; Anno Salutis 1731 Aetatis 75 / Gravissimi Doloris Hoc posuit monumentum / Moerens Vidua.'

Details

Description: Carved with military trophies at one end of the base and a ship portrait at the other. The inscription is flanked with panels carved with cherubs' heads, flowers and ship's equipment. The top of the base has a flaming urn at each end. A rectangular chest in the centre, carries Townsend's arms and is topped with a larger flaming urn.
