'Sacred to the memory of Capt. George Younghusband of the Royal Navy, a native of Berwick upon Tweed, he died here the 28th day of July 1806 aged 30 years. He fell a victim to uncommon vigilance and exertion while he commanded His Majesty's ship Heureux in the West Indies. In 1851 was restored by Lady Napier the only sister of the late Capt. George Younghusband RN wife of Admiral Sir Charles Napier, as a sincere tribute of affection to her lamented brother'

'Sacred to the Memory of / The Honble RANDOLPH CAPELL 3rd son of ARTHUR ALGERNON / 6th Earl of Essex Born 24th March. 1832 / He entered the Royal Navy in . 1846 . obtained his / Lieutenancy in . 1853 . and served under Admiral Dundas / on board the Britannia in the Black Sea, and formed part / of the Naval Brigade in the trenches during the entire siege / of Sebastopol in April . 1857 . he went out to Rio Janeiro / as Flag lieutenant to Admiral Wallis HMS Cumberland / and died there of yellow fever on the 24th . December . 1857 . / Aetat suae . 25 . universally lamented and beloved'

Description: Brass tablet enamelled in black and red on a black marble surround. A rope guilloche surrounds the inscription. The quatrefoil at each corner of the border contains a foul anchor flanked by interlaced crosses. Below the inscription, are the Capell arms, with a naval sword behind. The Crimea Medal is suspended from the shield.

Notes: M'Dougall, who says this inscription was placed on a headboard, gives a slightly different and shorter wording. This transcript accords with the version in the 'Illustrated London News' 28 Oct 1854 p. 421. Bellot apparently fell between two ice floes and drowned, although the incident was not witnessed.
