'S.M. of Sir Henry Harvey, Knight of the Bath, Admiral of the White Squadron of his Majesty's Fleet. An officer who passed through all the stages of the Naval Service, with exemplary conduct, etc., and solely by merit rose to high command. He eminently distinguished himself in the ever-memorable Victory of the 1st June, 1794; and was afterwards (without solicitation) appointed Commander-in-Chief on the Leeward Island Station, where he acquired a Fortune, by subduing the Enemies of his King and Country; and for his services there, during the years 1796-1799, His Majesty was graciously pleased to confer upon him the Most Honourable Order of the Bath. He died 28 Dec.,1810, in his 74th year. Also of Dame Elizabeth, relict of the above; ob. 7 Dec., 1823, in her 85th year.'

'Here lies the body of JOHN CARGILL Shipmaster in Auchmithie who was the husband to AGNES CARGILL, he died at Arbroath 6th Febry 1771 aged 67 years also here lies the body of DAVID CARGILL their son who died May 15th 1771 aged 22 years. Revised by PETER SWANKIE MARGARET [side of stone] MARGARET SPINK wife of PETER SWANKIE died 19th Jany 1899 aged 92 years [back] 'IC IB 1744 JOHN CARGILL, HELEN CARGILL, CATHERINE CARGILL, ROBERT CARGILL, AGNUS CARGILL, JAMES CARGILL. Decay of nature without regard to age hath worn this youthful beauty from off the stage. How frail it is and in how short a time, it fades like roses when they're past their prime, we that survive sooner or later must, her corpse here lives crumbling into dust, while her better part triumphs above, the highest reach of any human love, and left behind within this silent bed, as fine as girl as even her corner lived. Notes: Sir John Lindsay is buried in the north transept of Westminster Abbey, adjoining the grave of Lady Mansfield.
Sir John Lindsay was knighted in 1764 following the Rochefort expedition and the taking of Havana, Cuba in 1762. His ship, HMS Tartar, carried one of John Harrison’s chronometers during their sea trials.
His daughter Dido Elizabeth Belle was raised by his uncle, Lord Mansfield.

'Sacred / to the memory of / THOMAS and EDWARD LUCE, / sons of Thomas Luce Esqr. / of this Borough and Susan his wife / Thomas was born at Malmesbury / on the 13th of August 1824, and died / on the 22nd of October, 1845, at Bombay / on board the Auckland, steam frigate. / A midshipman in the Indian Navy. / His brother officers erected a tomb over his remains in the Colaba cemetery / at Bombay, in token of their estimation / of his amiable qualities and of their sorrow for his loss. / EDWARD was also born at Malmesbury, / on the 3rd of February 1831, and was / killed by a cannon ball at the bombardment / of Sebastopol, on the 11th of April 1855 ; / A Lieutenant in the Royal Artillery. / Lord Raglan`s despatch said of him / "The Royal Artillery has to lament the / death of Lieutenant Luce, who was a / zealous officer of much promise." / In every stage of his short life / he was consicuous for gentleness of / disposition, exemplary conduct and / a deep sense of religion. / His grave is on the field of Inkermann.'
