Description: The inscription is engraved and the plaque laid flat in the ground. It is relatively modern, replacing his original headstone. The plaque is plain in appearance and does not include any decorative details.

Notes: John Fryer was born and died in Wells-next-the-Sea. He served in the Royal Navy as an ordinary seaman for many years before qualifying as an officer in 1780. He was appointed Master of the ‘Bounty' on 26th August 1786 under the command of Captain Bligh to whom he remained loyal during the 'Bounty' mutiny of 1789.
