'Near this monument lies interred the Body of EDWARD MANNING Esqr one of the Honourable Privy Council, Speaker of the Assembly and custos Rotulorum of this Parish in which stations he distinguished himself a true Patriot to his country. In private life he was remarkable for filial duty steady friendship and kind benevolence to the distressed which with his affable disposition gained him the esteem of all who had the pleasure of knowing him, he died greatly lamented Dec 6th 1756 aged 46 years'
