'Near / THE FOOT OF THIS PILLAR / REST THE REMAINS OF / ALDERMAN GEORGE OSBORN, / WHO DEPARTED THIS LIFE / MAY 7TH 1827, AGED 73. / FRANCES, HIS BELOVED WIFE, / DIED SEP 23RD 1790, AGED 29 YEARS. / THOMAS, THEIR SECOND SON, / AGED 21 YEARS; / LATE OFFICER OF THE HON. EAST INDIA COMP`S / SHIP "JANE DUCHESS OF GORDON" / WHICH FOUNDERED IN A VIOLENT STORM / IN THE MONTH OF MARCH 1809, / WITH SEVERAL OTHER INDIAMEN / OFF THE MAURITIUS ON THEIR PASSAGE / TO ENGLAND / THE WHOLE OF THEIR CREWS PERISHING. / ALTHOUGH CUT OFF EARLY IN THE CAREER / OF HIS PROFESSION HE HAD ATTAINED / THAT DEGREE OF PRACTICAL SKILL AS A / NAVIGATOR, COUPLED WITH UNREMITTING G/ ATTENTION TO HIS DUTIES AS A SEAMAN, / ON ALL OCCASIONS, THAT SECURED TO HIM / THE CONFIDENCE OF HIS COMMANDERS, / AND ESTEEM OF HIS BROTHER OFFICERS'
