'In the midst of life we are in death / Beneath this stone are deposited in 1 grave the mortal remains of 5 persons who were drowned (near Swanpool) on their return from Falmouth to Durgan in a boat on 14 May 1845 / GEORGE BARNES late of Mousehold, Chief Boatman in her Majesty's C.G. Service stationed at Durgan, aged 57 also 3 of his sons, / Henry aged 22 / Thomas aged 16 / Stephen aged 13 / Ellen daughter of George and Grace RETALLIC of Durgan, aged 13 / THE LORD ON HIGH IS MIGHTIER THAN THE NOISE OF MANY WATERS, / YEA THAN THE MIGHTY WAVES OF THE SEA.
