Great Northern / who was accidentally drowned / close to Zanzibar / on 1st January 1855 / aged 31 years / "If thou shouldst call me to resign / what most thy prize, it ne'er was mine: / I only yield me what is thine: / Thy will be done” / This stone is erected by his sorrowing / mother as a last tribute of her affection'
