'In Memory of / Charles son of Charles and Anne Hooper / who was drowned at sea, having been washed / overboard in a hurricane; in the performance / of his duty as boatswain of the ship / "Light of the Age" in Latitude 31 degrees South and Longitude 49 degrees West on his homeward-bound / voyage from Sydney on the 10th Day of April 1856 in the 29th year of his age. / His sorrowing parents in erecting this tablet / desire to record their grateful sense of the sympathy / shown by the Captain, officers, passengers and ship's crew / who generously contributed to present to his family a / Testimonial of their Regard and Esteem for him. / 'Out of the deep have I called unto thee, O Lord; Lord; hear my voice, for there is mercy with thee / therefore shall thou be feared' / Psalm CXXX 1st & 4th'
