‘Near this Place lies interr’d / Sr. THOMs. ALLEN Bart. / Whose unshaken Fidelity to His Sovereign Charles ye. 2nd / Was rewarded with many Marks of His Royal Favour / Having had the Honour of serving Him, / As Admiral of His Fleets / In the British & Mediterranean Seas / Controller of the Navy, Capt. of Sandgate Castle / And Mastr. of Trinity House. / He died in 1686 in ye 73d. Year of His Age.'
