'Sacred to the memory of / John Ross and James Draper / seamen / who were killed on board / of HMS NAIAD / in defeating the French Fleet / off Boulogne in the presence of BUONAPARTE / 21ST Sept 1811. / Their shipmates / caused this monument to / be erected / to the memory of the truly good men, / who so nobly fell / in the just cause of their Country'
