'Sacred to the Memory of Wm. Thompson, Esq / of Mary Port in the County of Cumberland, / late Commander of the ship 'Captain Cook' / who departed this life on the 20 May 1834 / aged 56 years. / He was a good husband, and affectionate father / and sincere friend. His loss will be severely felt by / many. This tablet is placed here as the last mark / of respect, by his affectionate son, Wm Thompson'.
