Notes: Commissioned by the 'Daily Express' at a cost of £500. Drawings in British Institute of Architects library. The statue was stolen for scrap in 1969. The marble cenotaph was removed in 1970. The bronze plaque was recovered from a scrap dealer's yard in 1997 and the original is now in the hands of the Friends of Nunhead Cemetery. A fibreglass replica was installed on the wall of the Anglican chapel ruins in 2003.
