'Here underneath this Marble Lyeth Interred the Body / of Capt THOMAS STANTON, Formerly comma / nder of the Good Ship Returne to and from / Surat in East India who by his indefatigable in / dustry made ye said voyage in twelve mon / ths the like not done by any since his / Returne he Fought and beat a Dutch man / of war & brought ye said ship (to his never / Dying fame) safe into the River Thames he / departed this life at Bungay the 30th of April / 1691 in the 67th yeare of his Age here being / Likewise interred ye Body of Susanna his / beloved wife by whom he had Issue his / only Sonne Thomas Surviveing . they Rest he / re in hopes of a Joyfull Resurrection . Vivant / in aeternum'
