'In affectionate remembrance of / EDWARD / the beloved son of / EDWARD and MAY LOTHIAN / of Robin Hood Bay, Captn of the SS Laxham / who was drown'd through / collision, with his beloved wife / and child, in the Bay of Biscey [sic] / July 21st 1884 / EDWARD LOTHIAN aged 32 years / Margaret BEDLINGTON LOTHIAN / aged 30 years / EDWARD their son aged 1 years / We cannot mourne beside their graves / nor mark the place they lay / God only knows'
