Details

Description: Recumbent effigy on a tomb chest. The chest stands under a shallow curved stone canopy, which incorporates a carved frieze of stylised rose leaves similar to those painted inside the canopy. The keystone of the arch is carved as a kneeling angel with a carved fish above and behind each wing. He holds a shield bearing the painted cross of St George (Admiral's flag). Robed male and female figures in canopied niches on either side of the memorial hold terrestrial and celestial globes. Canopies have fish scale patterns on the roofs and a carved scallop shell behind each angel's head. The inscription panel with a blue background, stylised waves forming a setting for the admiral's funeral barge. On the tomb, the recumbrant bronze effigy of the admiral in dress uniform, wearing a cloak, CVO and campaign medals. On rush matting with cushion behind the head.
