‘To the dear memory of / WILLIAM BOURCHIER SHERARD WREY, / C.M.G., C.B.E., Captain Royal Navy, /4th son of Sir Henry Bourchier Toke Wrey, D.L. / of Trebitch and Tawstock Court. / Born April 2nd 1865: died January 8th 1926. / Egypt 1882 and 1885 China 1900, Relief of Pekin. / (2nd in Command Naval Brigade specially promoted Commander) / and in the GREAT WAR 1914-1919. / as Principal Naval Transport Officer and Senior Naval Officer / with rank of Commodore, Southampton. / (Order of Leopold of Belgium: Order of Sacred Treasure of Japan / American D.S.M.) / “We will go by the King’s highway, we will not turn to the right / hand nor the left until we have passed thy borders. / His ashes were buried at sea. / This Memorial was placed here by / FLORA BATHURST, his Wife. / Born March 16th 1870; died April 1st 1954 / Younger daughter of Vice-Admiral and Mrs Greive / of Ord House, Berwick-on-Tweed.’
