Around edge 'I WILL BRING MY / PEOPLE AGAIN FROM THE / DEPTHS OF THE SEA', 'SACRED / To the memory of ALFRED RIPLEY / midshipman R.N. youngest son / of Henry William Ripley of / Lightcliffe Esqr. who was drowned / in the 18th year of his age in / H.M.S. Captain when that ship / capsized in the Bay of Biscay / on the night of Sepr. 6 1870. / This monument is erected as / an expression of affectionate / regret by the officers of H.M.S. / Royal Oak in which he had served / for 2 1/2 years & from which he had / exchanged four days before his / death'

Description: The border inlaid with back marble, decorated with oak leaves above the inscription. The tablet has a small pediment above with a cross. Between the pediment and the oak leaves - two dophins with a trident between.
