'Sacred to the Memory of / MR JAMES RANKING who whilst actively / engaged in the Zealous discharge of his duty / as Commander of the ship Vittoria, / fell overboard and was drowned, in the Bay of Biscay / on the night of the 12th of February 1827 / Aged 44 Years / Also / of JOHN RANKING who died at Surinam / Aged 14 Years. / Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day / nor the hour Wherein the Son of Man Cometh; / lest coming Suddenly he find you Sleeping'
