'In memoriam / WILLIAM SCORESBY / born at Nutholme, Yorkshire May 3rd / 1760 was many years successfully / engaged in the Arctic Whale Fishery / died at Whitby 28th April 1829 / also LADY MARY wife of the above / WM SCORESBY born at Cropton April 5th 1765 / died at Whitby February 1st 1819 / also SARAH SKELTON eldest daughter / of the above born May 3rd 1784 died at Hull July 1789 / also REV WILLIAM SCORESBY DD / their eldest son born Oct 5th 1789/died at Torquay March 21 1857 / also THOMAS SCORESBY MD born / Sept 17th 1804 died in U.S. March 11th 1866 / also JOHN, JOHN, SMITH, ANN, EDMUND / RACHEL & HORATIO died in their infancy / This stone was erected in affectionate / remembrance by MARY CLARK & ARABELLA JACKSON / surviving daughters of the above WILLIAM and / LADY MARY SCORESBY / MARY CLARK died at Grosmont / March 17th 1876 aged 88'
