'IN MEMORY OF GEORGE NEAT TREMLETT, ESQ., / COMMANDER ROYAL NAVY; / WHO DIED ON APRIL 20TH 1865, / AGED 97 YEARS. / AT THE TIME OF HIS DEMISE / HE WAS THE OLDEST OFFICER IN THE NAVY, / WHICH SERVICE HE JOINED / IN 1780. / ALSO TO / MARY RADCLYFFE, WIFE OF THE ABOVE; / WHO DEPARTED THIS LIFE / ON JULY 28TH 1853, / AGED 76 YEARS'

Details

Description: A rectangular tablet of black marble with a triangular top, is supported on two small rectangular feet. Superimposed is a grey marble tablet of the same shape but smaller. On this, in relief, is a white laurel wreath, leaves pointing to centre top, stems tied at the base with a bow of ruched ribbon. Above is a crest: - an eagle's head erased holding in the beak a sword palewise the hilt in base. Within the wreath, the inscription is incised and painted black in Roman capitals.
