'IN PIOUS MEMORY OF JAMES BRASIER VICE ADMIRAL RN / THIS BRASS WAS PLACED / HERE BY ELIZABETH BLANONE HIS WIDOW : A : D : MDCCCLXVI / BORN FEB 10 1784 DIED JULY 28 1864' [On cross] 'IHS', 'JB', [Round anchor ] 'WHICH HOPE WE HAVE AS AN ANCHOR OF THE SOUL BOTH SURE AND STEADFAST / . (Hebrews Ch. 6. v. 19)'. [On left scroll] 'Him that believeth / in me tho’ he were / dead yet shall / he live / (John Ch. 11. v. 25)' [right scroll] 'Thou will keep him / in perfect peace whose / mind is stayed on thee. / (Isaiah Ch. 26. v. 3).'

Details

Description: Rectangular plaque inset into a rectangular polished stone backing. The inscriptions are incised and filled with black. The main inscription forms a border round the edge, with symbols of the evangelists in the corners. A Latin cross covers the main part of the plaque. There is a red anchor in a large roundel in the centre surrounded by green leaves, with a decorative border of leaves and small flowers, The upright is flanked by incised scrolls.
