'Sacred to the Memory of Sir Erasmus Gower Knt. Admiral of the White Interred in the Church of Hambleden in Hampshire Who in domestic life was consistent and affectionate and in Command Prompt indefatigable and brave, a patron of merit, unbiased by favour or connexion and firm under long and severe affliction he died respected by his friends and lamented by the poor in the seventy second year of his age and the fifty eighth year of his public service June 21st 1814'
