'Sacred to the Memory of / Mr Thomas Sheppard / late Senior Branch Pilot in the Honourable Com / pany's Bengal Marine Establishment, who de / parted this life on the 1st October 1825 / aged 51 years and 10 months / Leaving a disconsolate widow and five children to / lament his irreparable loss, and by whom this / Monument is erected in testimony / of their affection. / Why on this mouldering tomb express his praise / Whose name can build what time can n'er erase.'
