Danube / Who was drowned in Vigo harbour / on the 14th of Jan. 1883 in his 24th year' [second plaque] 'This tablet / is erected by his brother officers and shipmates / to whom he was endeared by his thorough manliness / and good nature and his readiness to do a good turn / to any who needed it'
