‘In a Vault / belonging to the Parish Church / of St George’s Hanover Square / in the County of Middlesex / rest the remains of GENL WM. PICTON / who departed this Life the 14th Day of / October 1811, in the 87th year of his Age / having actually served / in Flanders, in Germany and at the Seige / of Gibraltar, against the combined Force / of France & Spain / and at the destruction of the battering Ships / on the 13th September 1782 / It was his earnest injunction to have it recorded / that he was duly impressed / to his latest moment / with the deepest sense of Gratitude and Veneration / for the Royal Protection / his most benevolent and beneficent Sovereign / most graciously and spontaneously / pleased to honor him with / in consideration of his Services.’
