'SACRED TO THE MEMORY OF / SIR ROBERT SEPPINGS, F.R.S. & c / SURVEYOR OF THE ROYAL NAVY / WHO DIED AT TAUNTON 25TH APRIL 1840 / AGED 72 YEARS / AFTER SERVING HIS COUNTRY FIFTY YEARS / "TO HIS ABILITIES AND EXERTIONS / THIS COUNTRY IS MAINLY INDEBTED FOR ITS MOST / VALUABLE IMPROVEMENTS IN / NAVAL ARCHITECTURE, / WHICH WILL CONFER A LASTING BENEFIT ON THE / BRITISH NATION." / (FROM THE REPORT OF THE COMMITTEE OF FINANCE / HOUSE OF COMMONS / 30TH APRIL 1819.'
