BIRKENHEAD / 26TH FEBRVARY, 1852. / THE SHIP, CARRYING REINFORCEMENTS / FOR THE EIGHT KAFFIR WAR, STRVCK / A SVNKEN REEF APPROXIMATELY / 1 1/3 SEA MILES SOVTH-WEST BY SOVTH / FROM THIS POINT. / NINE OFFICERS, THREE HVNDRED & / FORTY NINE OF OTHER RANKS AND / EIGHTY-SEVEN OF THE SHIP'S / COMPANY LOST THEIR LIVES. / EVERY WOMAN & CHILD WAS SAVED // ERECTED BY THE NAVY LEAGVE OF SOUTH AFRICA 1936.'
