'Sacred / to the memory / of / Thomas Plumer Halsey, / aged 39, / Member of Parliament for this County. / Also of Frederica Halsey, his wife ,/ aged 35. / And of Ethelbert Arthur Sackville Halsey, / their youngest son, aged 4 years. / "Of such is the kingdom of heaven." / They were all swallowed up in the great deep / in one instant, on their passage from Genoa / to Marsailles, in the Erculano steam packet / which was sunk with almost all the passengers / by a dreadful collision with another vessel / off Antibes, on the night of / April 24th 1854. / And the sea gave up the dead which were in it. Rev.xx.13. / They were lovely and pleasant in their lives and in death they were not divided / 2 Sam.1.23. / In Rama there was a voice heard, lamentation and weeping / and great mourning, Rachel weeping for her children and/would not be comforted because they are not.
