'Erected by his loving wife in affectionate remembrance of Alexander AIR who died at Hong Kong October 23rd 1891 aged 56 [or 58] years. Also Alexander John AIR son of the above who was lost in the foundering of S.S. 'Namchow' January 7th 1892. Aged 27 years'

Notes: Screw steamer 'Namchow' owner, Chuah yu Pung, built 1870 Newcastle, 1712 tons. Broke her propeller shaft in a storm, was swamped and foundered. Out of 450 passengers, mostly Chinese, only 50 were saved.
