'Near this place / Lie interred the remains of / The Right Honourable William Lord Hotham / of South Dalton, in the County of York, / Admiral of the Red, and a Baronet, / who after a long life, / Honourably and Conspicuously spent / in the naval service of his country / Was raised by his Sovereign / to the Dignity of an Irish Peerage / Most graciously extended to the Heirs Male / of the Body of his Father, / William, Lord Hotham, was the Third son, of Sir Beaumont Hotham of Scarborough, Bart. / and succeeded to the Baronetcy on the Demise / of his Nephew, Sir Charles Hotham, on July 18th 1811, / He was Born April 8th 1736 / and departed this life, at South Dalton / on May 1st 1813 in the 78th year of his age / in testimony of the many and signal benefits / Which he conferred upon his Family / This tablet is erected to his Memory / by his next surviving and Affectionate Brother / Beaumont, Lord Hotham'
