'In memory of / Lieut. Frederick Bedford RN / born 20th February 1779 / died 13 May 1862. / At the early age of twenty three, / being incapacitated for further service afloat / in consequence of severe wounds received in actions / with the enemy, he was appointed to Greenwich hospital / on the 23rd June 1802 / where he passed the remaining sixty years of his life / universally respected and beloved for high sense of honour / unswerving integrity and true Christian benevolence. Also Mary, widow of the above / Lieut Bedford died at Greenwich May 25th 1876 and buried in the new Hospital Cemetery' [Standing stone in enclosure] 'This corner the burial place of / Frederick Bedford of the Royal Hospital/Charles Arthur his son died 25 Sept 1813 / aged 7 months'
