'To the Memory of / John Knowles Esqre F.R.S. / Corresponding Member / of the Philosphical Society of Rotterdam / and for some Years Secretary / to the Surveyors of the / Royal Navy, / who was born in the Parish of St Pauls / Deptford, Kent, / the xxivth March mdcclxxxi and died in this Parish / the xxlst July mdcccxxxxi. / Also Samuel Posgate Knowles, Brother of the above, / who died the xxxth January mdccclxvii, / Aged lxxiv Years.'
Details
Description: Wall tablet in Gothic Revival frame. The inscription surrounded by a moulding which rises up to form an ogival canopy with crockets and finial, within which is tracery of a cinqfoil between two trefoils. There is an egg and tongue frieze below the inscription, below which are four square paterae with the Knowles arms in the centre.
