'Per mare per terram. Sacred to the memory of Pte. Fredk. HALL R.M.L.I. who died 3rd January 1897 and was buried here. Also L. Corporal P. L. King R.M.L.I. who died 28th July 1897 at Otaranni Japan and was buried at sea. This stone is erected by the Royal Marines of H.M.S. 'Narcissus' and friends in token of their deepest esteem of their late comrades. Thy will be done.'
