'To the memory of / EDWARD GERVASE EGERTON / Lieutenant Royal Navy / elder son of Jack Egerton Captain / Royal Navy and Marion his wife / of Sheriff Hutton Park / He was born on the 25th July 1920 & was / killed in action during the attack on Dieppe / on Wednesday 19th August 1942 while / in command of H.M. Chasseur 13 / & was buried at sea, 'God made trial of them and found them worthy of Himself'
