'In memory of Robert Hale of Sunderland near Sea Co. of Durham, Master Mariner aged 44. He commanded the Zenith of Sunderland which was lost on Burry Holms Bar in the gale of the 8 January 1867 when all hands 9 in number perished. This stone was erected as a memorial by the owner'
