'IN MEMORY OF / ADMIRAL SIR HENRY JOHN CODRINGTON, / THIRD SON OF ADMIRAL SIR EDWARD CODRINGTON / AND JQNE HIS WIFE. / HE WAS BORN 17TH OCTOBER 1808. / AS MIDSHIPMAN HE WAS DANGEROUSLY WOUNDED / IN THE BATTLE OF NAVARIN, 1827. / AS CAPTAIN HE COMMANDED H.M.S. 'TALBOT' / AT THE SIEGE OF ACRE, 1840. / AND H.M.S. 'ROYAL GEORGE' IN THE BALTIC / DURING THE WAR WITH RUSSIA 1854-5. / HE WAS KNIGHT COMMANDER OF THE BATH. / AND HAD THE RUSSIAN ORDER OF VLADIMIR / THE FRENCH ORDER OF LEGION OF HONOUR, / THE GREEK ORDER OF THE REDEEMER, / AND THE TURKISH ORDER OF THE MEDJIDIE. / HE BECAME ADMIRAL OF THE FLEET IN JANUARY 1877 / AND DIED 4TH AUGUST 1877 / AGED 68 YEARS AND 10 MONTHS.'
